Patriot's Pen Essay

2019 LOCAL WINNERS ARE IN!!!!!

1st Place- Kellan Foore

2nd Place Emma Smith

3rd Place Ava Murcko

CONGRATULATIONS! WAY TO MAKE US PROUD!!!!

Veteran's Day is right around the corner!

Do you love your country? Are you proud to be an American? Well, then you are a patriotic person!

Think about the different groups that you are proud to be a part of. You might be proud to be a student at your school. You might be proud to be on a team. You might be proud to be a member of your family. Are you also proud to be a citizen of the United States? If so, this is a display of patriotism. Loving and appreciating your country is a very patriotic attitude.

Not only is patriotism about feeling pride in your country, it is about taking that pride a step further and putting it into action. A patriotic person sees their status as an American citizen as a great honor, but that honor comes with responsibility. Therefore, patriotic people think about how their choices will reflect on their country. Patriotic people make choices that will make their country look good.

Patriot’s Pen is a nationwide essay competition that is sponsored by the Veteran’s of War Association. This essay competition gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy with the prospect of winning U.S. savings bonds. This year’s (2020-2021) theme which is annually chosen by the Commander-in-Chief himself is “What is Patriotism to Me?”

T'was the Night... POEM

Due: December 18, 2020

Have you read any ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas Parodies’ – those funny, sarcastic renditions of the iconic poem that was published 196 years ago? Christmas IS a time for giving, being with family, and relaxing, but at the same time, it is so easy for us to become overwhelmed, stressed, and easily irritable!  Let’s be honest, running around the mall, last minute, with all the other procrastinators, can drive anyone crazy, right?!

Our sixth graders want you to take a minute this holiday season to sit back and relax with our very own parodies of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Who would you want to be?

MEET MRS. DODDO

Hello! My name is Laura Doddo and I am thrilled to be a sixth grade teacher at Reynolds Elementary School.

Go RAIDERS!

Teaching is my  passion and I am honored to be a part of such a wonderful profession.

I have lived  in the Greenville, PA area my entire life and am married to my wonderful  husband, Matt. We have a beautiful, energetic 4 year old daughter, Haylee Ann, and a  beautiful, spunky 1 year old daughter, Madalyn Marie. They have been true blessings to our family! We recently added a chocolate lab puppy, Zoey, to our crazy family.

After graduating high school from Greenville High School, I attended Slippery Rock University where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.  While at Slippery Rock, I was a member of the track and field team as a multi-athlete. Later, I attended Walden University and received my Masters Degree in Elementary Reading and Mathematics.  This year marks my eleventh year as a sixth grade teacher with the Reynolds School District.

My interests outside of school include spending time with my family and friends, enjoying sporting events at all levels,  visiting our cabin in the mountains, four-wheeling, and crafting.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and am excited for a fun and successful year!
