Emergency Information

  • Winter Weather Watch

WINTER WEATHER WILL ARRIVE BEFORE WE KNOW IT.  WHEN SNOW OR OTHER INCLEMENT WEATHER IS PREDICTED, THE SAFETY OF REYNOLDS SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS IS THE PRIMARY CONCERN OF OUR PARENTS AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL.

SCHOOL CLOSING, DELAYS, OR EARLY DISMISSAL

If school is to be delayed, cancelled, or an early dismissal is required, a Parent Square notification will be sent out to parent contact information currently on file.  If you need to update your contact info, please contact Mrs. Anna Wilkinson at 724-646-5500, Ext. 5525.  In addition, the decision will be broadcast on the radio stations or TV channels listed below.

On days when weather conditions cause only minor delays for the school buses, students are asked to wait a maximum of fifteen minutes at the bus stop.  However, the waiting period is at the parent’s discretion, depending on wind chill factor, etc.

One or two hour delays in school starting time may be made when weather conditions warrant.  If road conditions worsen during the day and it is not possible to properly maintain the roads, students may be delayed in arriving home.  There may be advanced warning during the school day of potential weather conditions that would warrant closing school at an earlier time.  This would only be done in an extreme situation.  We ask our parents to please have an arrangement planned for their child in case of such an emergency, or any other emergency which may occur on a local or national level.

It is the school district’s responsibility to safely transport children to and from school; however, parents have the ultimate decision.  When the Reynolds School District issues a two-hour delay for the start of school, but a parent feels the weather conditions make it inadvisable to send their child to school, the parent has the ultimate decision and may keep their child home. Send a brief written excuse when your child returns to school. Such absences will be considered excused only on days when a two-hour delay is called. On days when weather conditions cause only minor delays for the school buses, students are asked to wait a maximum of fifteen minutes at the bus stop. However, the waiting period is at the parent’s discretion, depending on wind chill factor, etc.

    MAKE-UP DAYS

Please reference the current school year calendar to view designated make-up days for school closings due to inclement weather/other closings.

SCHOOL CLOSING, DELAYS, OR EARLY DISMISSAL

If school is to be delayed, cancelled, or an early dismissal is required, the decision will be broadcast on the following radio stations or TV channels listed below:

    • WKBN
    • WFMJ
    • Froggy 100.3 & 98.5
    • MAJIC 99.3 & 104.5
    • WUZZ  94.3 & 107.7

  • There are a number of key details about which parents should be informed in the unlikely event of a school-based emergency:

=         First and foremost, the safety of our students and staff is our primary focus and responsibility.

=         Across the district, building plans and procedures for crisis response are regularly reviewed, updated, and training offered.

=         Each building is staffed by a nurse.  Personnel with CPR and Medical Emergency Certification are identified in each building.

=         As a health/safety precaution, a school campus may be closed to all visitors except emergency and law enforcement personnel.  If the school campus is closed, parents will be directed to an identified staging area.

=         Parents should check the website, local television, and radio channels for in-formation.  Parents may telephone the Central Office, if necessary, until a staging area for communications is in place and operational.  Parents should not call the school building.  Any available school telephone lines should be kept open for emergency communications.

=     If a student is injured during an emergency situation, every effort will be made to contact the parent/guardian as soon as possible.  It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to complete and turn in emergency information sheets and to keep the information current.

=         Every family should devise a personal plan to be put into place in the event of a community-based emergency crisis.  This plan should include where to meet, the location of necessary supplies, a battery-operated flashlight and radio, etc.

  • tudent Arrival Times:

Due to safety concerns, students are not to be dropped off earlier than the school buildings open due to no student supervision.  Doors will be locked, and students will not be permitted inside the buildings until the following times:

=         Reynolds Jr.-Sr. High School – Doors Open for Student Arrivals at 7:20 AM

=         Reynolds Elementary School -  Doors Open for Student Arrivals at 8:30 AM

    Secondary Student Drop-off / Pick-up Designation:

Due to safety concerns, students being dropped off at the beginning of the day and/or picked up at the end of the day at Reynolds Jr.-Sr. High School are to be picked up near the gymnasium in the Crestview Drive parking lot.  Cars are not permitted to wait among the buses parked along the front of the high school.

School safety is our number one concern at Reynolds School District,

and your cooperation in helping to keep our students safe is appreciated.

  • Keeping our students, parents and staff informed is a top priority in the Reynolds School District.  We have adopted ParentSquare for all district communications & emergency notifications to provide important information about school events and emergencies.  We anticipate using the system to notify you of school delays or cancellations due to inclement weather; and reminders about various school events including report card and progress report distribution, open house, field trips, late buses and more.  In the event of an emergency at school, you can have peace of mind knowing that you will be informed immediately.

    Receiving messages from the ParentSquare

    *Uses current phone numbers and email addresses for parents/guardians;

    *Caller ID will display the school’s main number if/when a voice notification is delivered;

*ParentSquare will leave a message on any answering machine or voicemail.

Emergency Information and Annual Parent Permission Card

The successful delivery of information is dependent upon accurate contact information for each student, so please make certain that we have your most current phone numbers and e-mail addresses.  If this information changes during the year, please request an “Emergency Information and Annual Parent Permission Card” from any of the school district offices.

Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Anna Wilkinson at 724-646-5500, Ext. 5525 or Mr. Brian Buchman at 724-646-5500, Ext. 5515.

We are very excited to incorporate ParentSquare as a tool to improve communication within the Reynolds School District.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

The Reynolds Junior-Senior High School acknowledges the unfortunate school events that have been occurring across our country.  As a result, a review of student and staff safety has been paramount over the past weeks.  In an effort to improve school safety and awareness, we will be implementing new entry procedures at the Junior-Senior High School.  As of March 26, 2018 Reynolds Junior-Senior High School will have all entrance doors locked until 7:20 AM on school days.  Students are not permitted on school property until 7:20 AM and will not be able to enter the Junior-Senior High School before 7:20 AM.  At 7:20 AM students may enter the building through doors A and F.  Any student(s) being dropped off should be dropped off at door F using Crestview Drive.  Please do not drop students off at door A, the front parking lot should be avoided to provide a safe unloading zone for school busses in the morning.

The District apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause to families who do not use school transportation. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with these new procedures, as we make efforts to create the safest learning environment for all of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Shearer
